October 2, 2020 – Recently, Azria Health partnered with Dreamweaver Foundation, a non-profit based in Omaha, to provide our seniors with something that’s sure to raise their spirits during this difficult time – the gift of virtual interaction with loved ones.
Dreamweaver Foundation recently awarded five of our residents’ access to Facebook Portal, a smart video software that enables them to safely interact with loved ones who cannot currently visit due to COVID-19.
As seniors are a high-risk population, residents of senior living facilities cannot safely receive visits from loved ones during this time. Here at Azria Health we are always looking for creative ways to mitigate such social effects on our residents. That’s why, when we heard about Dreamweaver Foundation’s contest offering eligible individuals the chance to win access to a Facebook Portal, we jumped at the opportunity.
“Our goal is to lessen the feelings of isolation, depression, and loneliness [of seniors] through a small video calling device which brings people together virtually,” said the foundation’s Dream Coordinator, Ashley Weirich. “With the Portal by Facebook, seniors can see their family using the Smart Camera that automatically keeps everyone in view.”
To our delight, five of our residents were thrilled to learn that they had been chosen. Each of them has expressed immense gratitude to Dreamweaver Foundation for providing them with a new way to connect with their families. When asked about the Facebook Portal one winner, Ms. S, said “I’m so excited to be able to see my girlfriends on video now since I’m in my room all the time!” Another winner, Ms. W, loves her Facebook Portal and stated that “it’s nice to see my brothers on video and listen to music.”
We believe that our values align perfectly with those of the Dreamweaver Foundation, an organization that is dedicated to helping terminally ill seniors fulfill their dreams. Dreamweaver Foundation’s goal is to bring light and love to those who are going through dark times and provide them with happiness and comfort during their final days.
At Azria Health, we’re committed to going above and beyond to provide total care for our residents. Although the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to take extra safety precautions, we’ve continued to provide care that not only keeps our residents safe but improves their quality of life as well. We place an emphasis not only on physical health, but also on our seniors’ emotional health and well-being. Our mission is to provide residents with the best quality of life and make their stay with us a pleasant experience.
We’re all going through a challenging time at the moment, but it’s especially hard for those who have to isolate due to medical conditions. We recognize that contact with family can be restorative for the soul, so we make it a priority to not only keep residents safe, but to help our residents keep in touch with loved ones by whatever means are possible.
Other programs we’ve implemented to help our residents stay connected with loved ones include:
- Letters to Residents program, an online platform where friends and family can submit letters and photographs that are then printed and handed out to their loved ones.
- iPads are provided at our facilities so that residents can easily video chat with their loved ones.
- Although we are restricting visitors for the time being, families have been able to go to the window of a resident’s room to see them. This has made a tremendous impact on our residents.
